The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS), University of Ghana, congratulates Dr. Obodai Torto, a faculty member of the Centre, and H.E. Amma Adomaa Twum-Amoah, African Union Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development and a student of CMS, on their appointment to the high-level committee established to support Ghana’s preparations for the country’s leadership of the African Union.
President John Dramani Mahama constituted the committee to develop a strategy and implementation framework to guide Ghana’s priorities as he prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in January 2027. The committee, chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, brought together distinguished diplomats, academics, public officials and experts in African affairs.
The inclusion of Dr. Torto and H.E. Twum-Amoah reflects the expertise and experience they bring to discussions on migration, African integration, humanitarian affairs and continental development.
Dr. Torto has contributed to teaching, research and supervision at CMS and is also affiliated with the University of Ghana’s Institute of African Studies. H.E. Twum-Amoah, in her role as AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, has also been actively engaged with CMS and the University of Ghana on migration and related continental issues.
The committee subsequently completed its assignment and submitted five reports, including a proposed strategy, priority pillars and work programme to guide Ghana’s 2027 AU Chairmanship.
CMS warmly congratulates Dr. Obodai Torto and H.E. Amma Adomaa Twum-Amoah on this important national and continental assignment. Their participation highlights the Centre’s continuing contribution to scholarship, policy engagement and leadership on migration and development in Africa.
