The IDRC Research Chair on Forced Displacement in Anglophone West Africa joins fellow IDRC Research Chairs on Forced Displacement in sharing the Declaration on the Foundations and Renewal of International Protection for Forcibly Displaced Populations.
Adopted during a Policy Dialogue on Forced Displacement held in Rabat, Morocco, on 3 June 2026, the Declaration brings together perspectives from scholars, educators and advocates across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East and North Africa.
The dialogue was convened on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and provided a platform to reflect on the foundations of international protection and consider how protection frameworks can respond to the changing realities of forced displacement.
The Declaration calls attention to the need to renew approaches to international protection and ensure that the rights, dignity and protection needs of forcibly displaced populations remain central to global responses.
