Who we are

Established in November 2006 and officially launched in November 2007, the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) at the University of Ghana serves as a pioneering hub for research, teaching, training, capacity building, and policy development in the field of migration. As the only academic centre of its kind in the West African sub-region, CMS has emerged as a regional leader in migration studies, promoting interdisciplinary engagement and academic excellence.

The Centre's mandate spans the full spectrum of migration-related concerns, and it draws on the expertise of 24 interfaculty members from diverse academic backgrounds—including law, African studies, sociology, geography, food and nutrition, and population studies. These members actively contribute to teaching, research, policy development, and capacity-building activities.
