The University of Ghana Governing Council has announced the promotion of Prof. Leander Kandilige of the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) to the rank of Full Professor (Migration and Development).
The promotion was communicated by the Registrar of the University, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Secretary to Council, following the conclusion of the University Council meeting held on 22 July 2026.
Prof. Kandilige’s elevation recognizes his outstanding contributions to migration scholarship, policy and practice in Ghana and beyond. His scholarly work over the past decade has focused on migration and development, labour migration, return migration and reintegration, diaspora engagement, migration governance and the experiences of migrants within evolving global migration systems.
As a former Graduate Programmes Coordinator and a member of the Centre’s Management Committee, Prof. Kandilige has contributed significantly to the academic and administrative growth of CMS, supporting postgraduate training, research development and institutional advancement.
His research and publications have contributed to shaping conversations on migration policy and practice, particularly within African migration contexts, while strengthening evidence-based approaches to understanding the relationship between migration and development.
The Centre celebrates Prof. Kandilige’s achievement and wishes him continued success as he continues to contribute to migration scholarship, policy and practice in Ghana, Africa and beyond.
