Call For Applications for Scholarships Under the Migration and Translocality in West Africa (Mitra-Wa) at the University of Ghana

The Migration and Translocality in West Africa (Mitra-Wa) Research team at the University of Ghana is pleased to invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for PhD positions, as part of the project which aims to explore rural-urban and cross-border migration, the resulting growth of urban agglomerations and the interlinkages of these phenomena with environmental change in West Africa. Under this project which is funded by WASCAL, quantitative and qualitative methods will be employed to examine rural-urban migration and translocality in Ghana.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold a master's degree in any discipline related to Migration Studies, Geography, Climate Change, Anthropology, Political Science, or the social sciences and humanities broadly.
  • Meet the standard University of Ghana admission requirements, and have gained admission to the University of Ghana for the 2021/2022 academic year.
  • Be highly motivated to pursue full time doctoral studies according to the approved study plan.

Scholarship Package

The scholarship is tenable at the Centre for Migration Studies and Department of Geography and Resource Development, and covers: 

  • Full tuition fees
  • Full research costs towards PhD thesis
  • Monthly stipend to cover living expenses in Ghana

  1. A four page Research Proposal that outlines the research problem and how it will be investigated through more specific research questions.
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Two references which should be emailed directly by the referees to the above email addresses.
  4. Evidence of admission into relevant postgraduate programme.
  5. Transcript of master’s degree
